What is the difference between a companion dog and a service dog?

Tony Cho,
Companion dogs are highly trained and socialized dogs. They provide
unconditional love and can provide emotional and behavioural support
for the individuals they are bonded with. Companion dogs are a “best
friend” for many children. Companion dogs are not certified for public
access; therefore, they cannot be taken into public buildings. They are
not trained to hold a child back or perform the skills of a certified
service dog.
